Introduction
Arts and Humanities Core
Content
Viewing the video of The Road and using some or all of the
guide activities will enable students and teachers to address many of
the Core Curriculum Requirements in the Arts and Humanities. These
projects were developed with students and teachers in the classroom.
Some examples of those students' writing are included in the guide.
In particular, guide activities can be used to address the
following goals:

affect creating and performing in theatre. (2.22, 2.23, 2.26)
- Compare how similar themes are treated in drama from various
cultures and historical periods and discuss how theatre can reveal
universal themes. (2.23, 2.24, 2.25, 2.26)
- Describe how different media, techniques, and processes used
in theatre production can create different effects and cause
different personal responses for the audience. (2.22, 2.23)
- Describe how the use of different space, time, and force
elements contribute to the meaning of dance. (2.22, 2.23)

props/scenery have on the choreographic idea of a dance. (1.15,
2.23)
- Describe how the choreographer's movement choices in a live or
video performance communicate ideas throughout the dance. [PE]
(2.23, 2.24)
- Analyze and describe how factors such as time, place, and
belief systems are reflected in music. (2.25)
- Recognize that artists choose to express themselves in
different styles. (2.23, 2.24, 2.25, 2.26)

account the situation and basic motivation of the character. (1.2,
2.24, 2.25)

themes communicate cultural and aesthetic values. (2.22, 2.25,
