Viewership
According to recent Nielsen reports, approximately 640,000 Kentuckians, including some 125,000 children,
watch KET general-audience programs each week. The reports also indicate an audience of nearly 100,000 per
week for KET2 programming airing on WKMJ in the Louisville area.

Awards
In a 12-month period during 2000/01, KET received two regional Emmy Awards; four NETA (National
Educational Telecommunications Association) Awards, including Best of the Best for
Workplace Essential Skills; a regional CINDY (Cinema in Industry) Award
for Workplace Essential Skills; one of four national PBS Eddie Awards
recognizing online excellence for the web site accompanying the KET documentary
Kentuckys Underground RailroadPassage to Freedom;
a PBS National Communications Award for Visions magazine; two Lexington ADDY (advertising)
Awards for on-air promotion of American Shorts The Ryan Interview and mixed-media
promotion of Ellis WilsonSo Much To Paint; a Community Service
Award from the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights for our A Conversation on Race series; and a
Leadership Award from the Collaborative for Teaching and Learning. Also, Nancy Carpenter, KETs
executive producer for the arts, was honored with one of 10 statewide Governors Awards in the Arts.
Interns
In 2000, 19 students representing seven colleges worked in five KET divisions as
interns. These students received valuable experiential education and earned
college credit while working with the KET staff.
Volunteers
Including Friends Board members and KET network center volunteers, 731 volunteers contributed a total of
2,988 hours to KET during fiscal year 2000.
Services for the Disabled
KET has established a captioning center in order to offer 100% of its local productions with closed captioning
for the deaf and hearing-impaired in Kentucky. More than 70% of all programming on KET in a typical week is
closed-captioned as a public service.
