Arts and Cultural Programming
KET arts and cultural programs continue to reach out to a national audience of viewers while serving our statewide community. “The Ryan Interview,” the first program in the American Shorts series, premiered on more than 228 PBS stations nationwide, covering 78.5% of the country’s TV households. What If All Kentucky Reads the Same Book?, a project of bookclub@ket, attracted almost 10,000 readers and resulted in more than 200 reading and discussion activities across the state. Ellis Wilson—So Much To Paint, KET’s documentary portrait of the Mayfield, KY native who became part of the Harlem Renaissance art scene, was distributed nationally through the National Educational Telecommunications Association. Kentucky Author Forum Presents featured interviews with Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel, journalist Ted Koppel, and anthropologist Jane Goodall. KET recently completed and aired a three-part instructional series in collaboration with the Louisville Orchestra and is now completing several new arts series, including Looking at Painting and DanceSense, in addition to working on such popular ongoing series as Jubilee, Mixed Media, Kentucky Life, and In Performance at the Governor’s Mansion.

Public Affairs Programming
KET gives Kentucky citizens access to the Kentucky General Assembly with extensive on-air and videostreamed coverage during its sessions, while Legislative Update gives viewers up-to-date reports from Frankfort during the interim.

KET’s Election 2000 coverage included televised and videostreamed forums for congressional candidates, a three-part series on the Louisville-Jefferson County merger, plus statewide election-night coverage for both the primary and general elections. With Comment on Kentucky, the award-winning Kentucky Tonight, Kentucky’s Watch on Washington, and call-in programs on public issues, KET continually provides viewers with timely statewide public affairs information and commentary. For a worldwide perspective on current affairs, KET brings viewers the BBC World News, distributed nationally with closed captioning provided by KET.
