Arts and Cultural Programming
KET arts and cultural programs continue to reach out to a national audience of viewers
while serving our statewide community. The Ryan Interview, the first program in the American
Shorts series, premiered on more than 228 PBS stations nationwide, covering 78.5% of the countrys
TV households. What If All Kentucky Reads the Same Book?, a project of
bookclub@ket, attracted almost 10,000 readers and resulted in more than 200
reading and discussion activities across the state. Ellis WilsonSo Much To Paint,
KETs documentary portrait of the Mayfield, KY native who became part of the Harlem Renaissance art scene,
was distributed nationally through the National Educational Telecommunications Association. Kentucky Author
Forum Presents featured interviews with Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel, journalist Ted Koppel, and anthropologist
Jane Goodall. KET recently completed and aired a three-part instructional series in collaboration with the
Louisville Orchestra and is now completing several new arts series, including Looking at Painting and
DanceSense, in addition to working on such popular ongoing series as Jubilee,
Mixed Media, Kentucky Life, and
In Performance at the Governors Mansion.
Public Affairs Programming
KET gives Kentucky citizens access to the Kentucky General Assembly with
extensive on-air and videostreamed coverage during its sessions, while Legislative Update gives
viewers up-to-date reports from Frankfort during the interim.
KETs Election 2000 coverage included televised and videostreamed forums for congressional
candidates, a three-part series on the Louisville-Jefferson County merger, plus statewide election-night
coverage for both the primary and general elections. With Comment on Kentucky,
the award-winning Kentucky Tonight, Kentuckys Watch on Washington,
and call-in programs on public issues, KET continually provides viewers with timely statewide
public affairs information and commentary. For a worldwide perspective on
current affairs, KET brings viewers the BBC World News, distributed nationally with closed
captioning provided by KET.
