Cynthia Cooke ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My focus is cultural diversity in the arts and using non-Eurocentric art forms to illustrate math elements. I'm finding that blending the curriculum areas of art and math works quite well. For example, I'm using kente cloth patterns to demonstrate the creation of various patterns in math. I also have a side grant I'm very excited about. I'm creating a web site for cultural diversity to access talent from different communities to speak in classrooms about their culture and/or art forms. My goal is to bring more cultural diversity to Kentucky classrooms through art. Let's hear it for art in education!
