Comparing Technical Elements

Stage set and scenery

  • Buzzard—fence, night sky with moon
  • Wind—forest, shrubs in the foreground, house

Costumes

  • Buzzard—suit, hat
  • Wind—each animal’s character expressed through elaborate costume (students should describe each character’s costume specifically)

Makeup

  • Buzzard—minimal
  • Wind—elaborate: large front teeth on Otter and Rat, warts on Toad, wigs on each animal

Props

  • Buzzard—scarf, stick, two chairs
  • Wind—picnic basket, picnic cloth, food items, stick horse, motor car

Sound/music

  • Buzzard—walking stick pounded on the floor
  • Wind—orchestral music in one segment

Lighting

  • Buzzard—focused on performer, some back lighting for depth, spillover onto audience (for television production audience shots)
  • Wind—more complex to accommodate multiple actors, stage movement, etc.
