From: Program 1 of Old Music for New Ears
Length: 00:04:10

Description:

Malcolm Dalglish, a virtuoso hammer dulcimer player and composer, talks about the hammer dulcimer and performs a traditional folk song in this excerpt from Program 1 of the KET series Old Music for New Ears. The series brings top folk and traditional musicians into the studio to perform for a young student audience. Designed to introduce the pure and simple forms of traditional music to today’s generation, the series includes 22 15-minute programs featuring a wide variety of traditional instruments and musical styles.

Suggested uses:

  • to demonstrate the hammer dulcimer and discuss folk instruments
  • as an example of traditional American folk music
  • to compare/contrast with other songs about animals in the series, such as “Cluck Old Hen” and “The Hound Dog Song”
  • as a good sing-along song
