Let the Fiddle Do the Singing

Description:

Clyde Davenport of Jamestown, Tennessee and Roger Cooper of Garrison, Kentucky talk about and demonstrate two different styles of fiddle playing in this excerpt from Program 3 of World of Our Own: Kentucky Folkways. This KET series focuses on old and new Kentucky traditions in the areas of work, play, everyday life, and customs and beliefs. The series includes eight half-hour programs encompassing 35 segments on topics ranging from showing thoroughbreds to playing guitar.

Suggested uses:

  • to compare/contrast two styles of fiddle playing
  • as an example of traditional instruments
  • to use with study of Kentucky culture and history
