This lithograph shows the Battle of Mill Springs in Kentucky. The battle was one of the first major Union victories of the war. A lithograph is a printed copy of a drawing. This one was made by Currier and Ives, a famous printing company. The process they used let them make many copies of an image that were cheap to buy. Images like this one gave people a better understanding of the war and how it was being fought.
