Diary

Absalom Dicken was a Confederate soldier from Campbell County, Kentucky. During the war he kept a diary. He wrote about battles, the weather, and daily life as a soldier. The diary is bound in leather and fastens with a leather strap. A drawing from the diary shows a man holding a letter. The letter reads, “Dear Dick I love you.” The man is saying, “I am in a deal of [trouble] my gal has written to me.” Beneath the drawing is handwritten, “Dick wants a furlough for he thinks that its time, that all men ought to be at home attending to there own familie(s) for other men are doing to (o) much.”
