This Day in the Arts: March 29

March 29 marks the anniversary of the date in 1795 when Ludwig van Beethoven made his debut as a pianist in Vienna at age 24.

He played his own work, thought to be either his first or second piano concerto.

Later that year he published his Trios for Piano (Opus 1), which were a financial success. He was not so lucky in love in 1795, when Magdalena Willmann refused his proposal of marriage.

Beethoven's famous 5th Symphony was written in 1804-1808 and is one of the most recognizable pieces of music of all time.
