The Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, Italy, is inaugurated with a performance of Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex. The theater was designed by architect Andrea Palladio.

1931:

The U.S. adopts “The Star Spangled Banner” as its official national anthem.
