Cartoon character Betty Boop debuts in Dizzy Dishes.

1960:

In New York, filming begins on the movie adaptation of West Side Story, the hit Broadway musical featuring music and lyrics by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.

1975:

Australian director Peter Weir’s provocative film Picnic at Hanging Rock premieres in Adelaide. It will become one of the first Australian films to reach an international audience and help spark an Australian film renaissance.
