Founding figure of bebop and saxophonist Charlie Parker is born in Kansas City, Kansas.

1952:

4'33", a piece by avant-garde composer John Cage, has its debut in Woodstock, New York. The work consists of three movements in which no notes are played, leaving the focus on the incidental sounds in the concert hall.
