Japanese dramatist Zeami Motokiyo dies. Perhaps the greatest of the Noh dramatists, Motokiyo wrote nearly half of the classic Noh repertoire, as well as essays on the theater.

1653:

Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel, whose most famous composition is the Canon in D major, is born in Nuremburg.
