1921:
German composer Engelbert Humperdinck, known for his opera Hänsel und Gretel, dies. He was greatly influenced by the work of Richard Wagner.
1942:
In Passaic, New Jersey, American bandleader Glenn Miller appears with his orchestra for the last time before enlisting in the U.S. Army. There he would lead an all-star band until his death in 1944.
