The novel Moby-Dick by Herman Melville is published, in three volumes and under the title The Whale, by Richard Bentley of London.

1925:

The Grand Ole Opry, a weekly live Saturday-night country music radio program, premieres on WSM in Nashville. Today it’s the oldest continuous radio program in the United States.
