1931:
The first infrared photograph is taken in Rochester, New York. Infrared (IR) radiation is electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength longer than that of visible light, but shorter than that of microwave radiation.
1993:
Toni Morrison becomes the first African-American woman to win the Nobel Prize in literature. Her books include Beloved, Song of Solomon, and The Bluest Eye.
