Shinichi Suzuki, creator of the Suzuki method for teaching music to children, is born in Nagoya, Japan.

1915:

American dramatist Arthur Miller is born. His best-known works are The Crucible, All My Sons (which won the 1947 Tony Award for best play), and Death of a Salesman.
