The Art to Heart Training Series is designed for childcare professionals and consists of training modules exploring the arts in early childhood. These modules provide a foundation of understanding of brain development and the connections of creative activities such as visual art, dance, and movement, music, and drama to early learning and development.
Seven of the modules are designed for early childhood professionals working with young children. These seven modules contain Level 3 content and teach knowledge and skills similar to that addressed in CDA and AA degree programs. While they do include activities for use in the classroom, these training sessions are not the typical “make it and take it” art workshops. Instead, they focus on exploring the relationship of the arts to learning and development.
The eighth module includes training segments designed specifically for parents and contains Level 1 content.
The seven Level 3 trainings and one of the module 8 parent trainings—Visual Arts at Home—are available as a two-CD-ROM set from KET. For information about obtaining this CD-ROM, contact Kathy Day at firstname.lastname@example.org or (859) 258-7451.
Additional parent training materials are available on this web site.
Designed as ready-to-use training modules, each module contains a training plan, a PowerPoint presentation with embedded video segments, participant handouts, activity instructions, a needs assessment, an evaluation form, and a participant certificate.
The Art to Heart Training Series was developed by KET and the University of Kentucky Human Development Institute. This project was supported by funding from the Kentucky Department of Education using KIDS NOW funds from the proceeds of the Master Tobacco Settlement and by the W. Paul and Lucille Caudill Little Arts Endowment for KET.
