Happy holidays!
This special hour-long edition of bookclub@ket celebrates both Kentucky’s remarkable literary tradition, as reflected in the anthology A Kentucky Christmas, and the holiday season itself. Editor George Ella Lyon and four contributing writers—Dianne Aprile, Graham Thomas Shelby, Peggy Steele, and Jane Vance—join us in the studio to read from their own work, talk about other favorite selections from the book, and reminisce a little about their families’ Christmastime traditions. (Dianne even brought along her spectacular plum pudding, the making of which she describes in “All the Right Ingredients.”) And folk duo Zoe Speaks performs three songs included in the anthology.
But all of that is still just a sampling of the gifts to be found in A Kentucky Christmas, which is stuffed with short stories, excerpts from longer works, poems, recipes, essays, and song lyrics by Kentucky writers past and present. This showcase of the depth, breadth, and variety of Kentucky’s writing tradition is truly a book for any season.
