The Glory Days of the Steamboat

A look at the Howard Steamboat Museum in Jeffersonville, IN, and the history of steamboats in the area. Yvonne Knight, museum executive director, tells the story of the Howard family and their company, which built one-third of all steamboats in the nation. She also gives details about the exhibits at the museum, a Victorian mansion built by craftsmen from the Howard shipyard.

Trouble with video in Firefox:

This is a known issue with the Window Media Video format.

Windows Media plugin is no longer maintained in Firefox, causing it to stop working.

Solution: Change the Firefox configuration file.
  1. Open a new tab or window.
    In the "Location/URL" bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.
    (The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page will appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.)
  2. In the "about:config" page search bar, enter:
    "plugins.load_appdir_plugins"
  3. Double click the preference name to change the "value" to true.
  4. Close and restart Firefox. The video should now work once you reopen the page.
    If not, then the WMV plugin may not be installed.
