Derby Fashion History

(#323) Museum Exhibits Historic Gowns

The Kentucky Derby Museum displays Derby ball gowns from 1875 to the present in a special exhibit. Interviewed are Katherine Veitschegger, curator of collections for the museum; Jo Ross, fashion consultant with Stuecker/Ross; and Lynn Ashton, executive director of the museum. The segment also includes behind-the-scenes footage from the museum showing how the gowns were unpacked from acid-free tissue paper and prepared for display. Ross also explains how the mannequins themselves were turned into giant roses for the exhibit.
