The CommonHealth of Kentucky

(#107) Surviving Violence

Features community efforts to reduce the incidence of domestic violence, abuse, and neglect; encourage reporting of existing abuse; and support the victims. The Appalachian Violence Outreach Network serves women in Breathitt, Lee, Owsley, and Wolfe counties who have survived interpersonal violence or traumatic stress. The Advocacy and Support Center in Hardin County offers crisis counseling, referral services, medical support, therapy, and advocacy services for victims of rape and child abuse as well as community education on the issues. And schools throughout Kentucky are trying a variety of ways to eliminate bullying.

Trouble with video in Firefox:

This is a known issue with the Window Media Video format.

Windows Media plugin is no longer maintained in Firefox, causing it to stop working.

Solution: Change the Firefox configuration file.
  1. Open a new tab or window.
In the "Location/URL" bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.
(The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page will appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.)
  2. In the "about:config" page search bar, enter:
    "plugins.load_appdir_plugins"
  3. Double click the preference name to change the "value" to true.
  4. Close and restart Firefox. The video should now work once you reopen the page.
If not, then the WMV plugin may not be installed.
