One to One

(#312) Michael Gates Gill

On location at a Starbucks in Lexington, author Michael Gates Gill sits down for a cup with host Bill Goodman to discuss Gill's book How Starbucks Saved My Life: A Son of Privilege Learns To Live Like Everyone Else. Gill came from a wealthy family, graduated from Yale, and was a successful advertising executive in New York when he lost it all at the age of 60. Then he found a new sense of purpose as a Starbucks barista. A 2008 KET production.

Trouble with video in Firefox:

This is a known issue with the Window Media Video format.

Windows Media plugin is no longer maintained in Firefox, causing it to stop working.

Solution: Change the Firefox configuration file.
  1. Open a new tab or window.
In the "Location/URL" bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.
(The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page will appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.)
  2. In the "about:config" page search bar, enter:
    "plugins.load_appdir_plugins"
  3. Double click the preference name to change the "value" to true.
  4. Close and restart Firefox. The video should now work once you reopen the page.
If not, then the WMV plugin may not be installed.
