Dr. Ephraim McDowell

Assistant Director Alberta Moynahan gives a tour of the Ephraim McDowell House Museum in Danville, the former home of a doctor who is considered the father of abdominal surgery. On Christmas Day 1809, McDowell performed the first successful abdominal operation in the U.S., removing a 20-pound ovarian tumor from patient Jane Todd Crawford.
