Barthell Coal Camp

(#425) from Kentucky Life Program 425 (1997)

A tour of the Barthell coal camp in McCreary County. Nearly abandoned in the 1950s after its mine shut down, Barthell was restored by long-time residents Harold and Marilyn Koger, who turned it into a faithful re-creation of the “company towns” of a bygone era in tribute to the miners who had lived and worked there.
