Schimpff’s Confectionery

(#912) from Kentucky Life Program 912 (2003)

A behind-the-scenes look at how the Schimpff family creates some of the confections sold at their candy store in Jeffersonville, IN. Gustav Schimpff started the business across the Ohio River in Louisville in 1851, and today a fourth generation is turning out tasty treats using time-honored methods.

Trouble with video in Firefox:

This is a known issue with the Window Media Video format.

Windows Media plugin is no longer maintained in Firefox, causing it to stop working.

Solution: Change the Firefox configuration file.
  1. Open a new tab or window.
In the "Location/URL" bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.
(The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page will appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.)
  2. In the "about:config" page search bar, enter:
    "plugins.load_appdir_plugins"
  3. Double click the preference name to change the "value" to true.
  4. Close and restart Firefox. The video should now work once you reopen the page.
If not, then the WMV plugin may not be installed.
