Saving the American Chestnut

(#1318) from Kentucky Life Program 1318 (2007)

In Adair County, biologists hand-pollinate an 80-year-old American chestnut tree as part of an effort to help make the species more resistant to disease. This hardy specimen is an extremely rare survivor of the blight that wiped out billions of American chestnuts in the first half of the 20th century.
