Camp Breckinridge

(#1323) from Kentucky Life Program 1323 (2007)

Host Dave Shuffett visits the James D. Veatch Camp Breckinridge Museum and Arts Center in Morganfield. This former Army training center was used as a POW camp during World War II, housing prisoners from the German and Italian armies. One, Czechoslovakian Daniel Mayer, left his mark in the form of impressive murals of European scenes that were preserved after the war thanks to a community fund-raising campaign.

Trouble with video in Firefox:

This is a known issue with the Window Media Video format.

Windows Media plugin is no longer maintained in Firefox, causing it to stop working.

Solution: Change the Firefox configuration file.
  1. Open a new tab or window.
In the "Location/URL" bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.
(The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page will appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.)
  2. In the "about:config" page search bar, enter:
    "plugins.load_appdir_plugins"
  3. Double click the preference name to change the "value" to true.
  4. Close and restart Firefox. The video should now work once you reopen the page.
If not, then the WMV plugin may not be installed.
