Patti Cooksey, the first female jockey to win a stakes race at Churchill Downs, talks about her early love for horses, how she got into racing, and the exhilaration of her 1984 Kentucky Derby ride. Now employed with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, she talks about her work and comments on proposed track safety rules. A breast cancer survivor, she also discusses the Horses and Hope initiative. Interview conducted by Candyce Clifft.

Trouble with video in Firefox:

This is a known issue with the Window Media Video format.

Windows Media plugin is no longer maintained in Firefox, causing it to stop working.

Solution: Change the Firefox configuration file.
  1. Open a new tab or window.
    In the "Location/URL" bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.
    (The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page will appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.)
  2. In the "about:config" page search bar, enter:
    "plugins.load_appdir_plugins"
  3. Double click the preference name to change the "value" to true.
  4. Close and restart Firefox. The video should now work once you reopen the page.
    If not, then the WMV plugin may not be installed.
