Kentucky Time Capsule

(#116) In the Name of Progress

During the 1950s and '60s, Louisville lost much of its unique architectural heritage when old buildings and entire neighborhoods were torn down for high-rises, expressways, and "urban renewal." The reaction that emerged in the '70s was led by such critics as former mayor Charles Farnsley.

Trouble with video in Firefox:

This is a known issue with the Window Media Video format.

Windows Media plugin is no longer maintained in Firefox, causing it to stop working.

Solution: Change the Firefox configuration file.
  1. Open a new tab or window.
In the "Location/URL" bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.
(The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page will appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.)
  2. In the "about:config" page search bar, enter:
    "plugins.load_appdir_plugins"
  3. Double click the preference name to change the "value" to true.
  4. Close and restart Firefox. The video should now work once you reopen the page.
If not, then the WMV plugin may not be installed.
