John Muir’s Long Walk

(#516) from Kentucky Life Program 516 (1999)

Dr. Richard Shore of Louisville reenacts part of John Muir’s 1,000-mile walk across Kentucky and on to Florida in 1867. The trek, which began in Louisville, and the journal he kept helped formulate the ideas about humanity and its relationship to the natural world that would later lead Muir to explore the Sierra Nevada and found the Sierra Club.
