Camp Nelson

(#1113) from Kentucky Life Program 1113 (2005)

Civil War reenactors take part in a commemoration of the arrival of the first African-American Union Army volunteers at Camp Nelson. This former military base in Jessamine County, now the site of a national cemetery, was an important recruitment and training center for black troops after President Lincoln issued the call for them.
