Rebecca Ruth Candy

(#218) from Louisville Life Program 218 (2008)

Charles Booe, president of Rebecca Ruth Candy, talks about the history of the Frankfort business. He tells the story of how his grandmother, Ruth Hanly Booe, and her friend Rebecca Gooch started the candy factory in 1919, and how Ruth Booe invented the chocolate bourbon ball in the 1930s. He also talks about longtime employee Edna Robbins, who retired at age 90.

Trouble with video in Firefox:

This is a known issue with the Window Media Video format.

Windows Media plugin is no longer maintained in Firefox, causing it to stop working.

Solution: Change the Firefox configuration file.
  1. Open a new tab or window.
In the "Location/URL" bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.
(The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page will appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.)
  2. In the "about:config" page search bar, enter:
    "plugins.load_appdir_plugins"
  3. Double click the preference name to change the "value" to true.
  4. Close and restart Firefox. The video should now work once you reopen the page.
If not, then the WMV plugin may not be installed.
