We begin this week with a look at the 2004 Kentucky Music Hall of Fame honorees, including Governor’s Awards in the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award winner Dwight Yoakam; bluegrass master musician Ricky Skaggs; and Jerry Chestnut, an award-winning songwriter for such legends as Elvis Presley and George Jones. Other inductees include bluegrass favorite J.D. Crowe; the late Billy Vaughn of the Hilltoppers; saxophonist Boots Randolph; the Coon Creek Girls, who performed their traditional string-band music at the White House in 1939; and the late husband-and-wife gospel team of Howard and Vestal Goodman.

Next, meet Simpsonville photographer Bruce McElya, whose primary subject matter is the seldom-photographed Colorado River, which flows through the Grand Canyon. McElya holds the record for solo raft journeys in the Grand Canyon (seven). Now that the permit system no longer allows him to photograph the river, he has been preparing his first exhibit, culled from 15 years of photographs.

Throughout the program, Louisville musician Heidi Howe and bandmates perform from her CD Give a Hootenanny—Twangy Tunes About Loving the Earth. Heidi is donating a percentage of profits from the CD to the Farm Animal Reform Movement, EarthSave International, the Sierra Club, and four small farm sanctuaries.
