Orville Hammond, Pianist
![]() Orville Hammond's mission in musical performance is to present a high level of artistry and to share his passion for performing. His experiences with a variety of music--calypso to top forty tunes, classical music, reggae, and show-tunes to jazz--have enabled him to foster an element that is vital to this art form: improvisation. In addition to a standard jazz repertoire, Hammond's programs often include his own compositions, a number of which are reminiscent of his Caribbean heritage. Recipient of the Kentucky Arts Council's Fellowship in music composition in 1998, Hammond has also received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and numerous gold and silver medal awards for jazz and classical performances in music competitions. He has toured extensively in Europe and South America and has performed at the Montreux International Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
