The self-proclaimed "Culture Maven" says he's been writing seriously since 1990, after he was hit by a car while jogging. At that time, kaplan says, "I figured if I had something to say I’d better start saying it."
Since then, kaplan has been writing for the LEO (Louisville Eccentric Observer) - everything from music reviews to a sports column. One of his most popular features is called “The Culture Maven." He's also had pieces published in the Courier-Journal.
In 2007, kaplan celebrated the release of The Culture Maven's 2008 History Warp Day Planner, described as an "eminently practical desk calendar featuring offbeat but reasonbly accurate historical factoids." It's a dream-come-true for this history buff.
kaplan enjoys living in Louisville with the loves of his life, "Joanie the Film Babe and Lila the Love Dog."
