Chris Poynter, First Friday Trolley Hop

Chris Poynter is deputy director of communications for Mayor Jerry Abramson. Chris joined us in our studio to talk about the First Friday Trolley Hop.

The First Friday Trolley Hop is a celebration of downtown Louisville that is bringing new visitors and new life to the Main and Market corridor.

The Trolley Hop got its start in December 2001, when a group of artists and art gallery owners on Main and Market Streets suggested using TARC's historic trolleys to connect the increasing number of galleries in the downtown district.

Chris Poynter with Host Candyce Clifft The First Friday Trolley Hop takes place on the first Friday of each month from 5-11 p.m., rain or shine. Most of the galleries close around 9 p.m. but the restaurants, clubs, and shops stay open later. The trolleys run until 11 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. There is also free parking available. Trolleys can be boarded at any trolley stop along the route. Visit the First Friday Trolley Hop web site for details.

You can also catch a trolley for shopping and dining on the last Friday of each month along the Historic Frankfort Avenue Corridor. The Frankfort Avenue Trolley F.A.T Friday both the Trolley Hop and parking are free here as well.
