Gary P. West, Author
Gary P. West grew up in Elizabethtown, Ky., and has lived in Bowling Green since 1971.
For 13 years he was an athletics administrator at Western Kentucky University, and in 1993 he became the executive director of the Bowling Green Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. He retired in 2005 to write full-time.
Due to his past work in sports and tourism, Mr. West has traveled to virtually every corner of the Commonwealth. These travels helped him to collect many stories and have led to the development of his books: Eating Your Way Across Kentucky and Shopping Your Way Across Kentucky.
Mr. West is also a freelance writer for both Kentucky Monthly and Kentucky Living Magazines and writes a syndicated column, Out & About . . . Kentucky Style, for several Kentucky newspapers.
Mr. West has been recognized for excellence in journalism on several occasions. Among his accolades are a first place award for magazine writing from The Kentucky Press Association and, in 2008, he was named Bowling Green's “best local writer” by the Daily News.
Gary P. West is also a popular speaker on travel and hospitality in Kentucky as well as an assortment of sports topics.
