John Gordon, National Weather Service (NWS)
John Gordon is Meteorologist In Charge (MIC) of the National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office in Louisville.
The Louisville NWS serves the citizens across 59 counties of Kentucky and southern Indiana.
Before Louisville, John was the first MIC at the brand new NWS office in Huntsville, Ala., from 2002-2004. Mr. Gordon earned a BS in meteorology from St. Louis University in 1986 and a Masterís in teaching in geoscience from Mississippi State in 2002.
John recently retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves after nearly 21 years of service. Most of his Air Force career was spent as a flight meteorologist for the U.S.A.F. Reserve 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron Hurricane Hunters based in Biloxi, Miss. He flew through 3 Category 5 hurricanes over 3 years from 2003-2005 (ISABEL, IVAN, KATRINA).
In addition to Huntsville, Ala., and Louisville, John has also worked as a meteorologist in Oklahoma City, Okla.; Germany; Jackson, Miss.; Springfield, Mo.; and Nashville, Tenn.
