Kentucky Portrait Painters

"Louisville Life" recently visited the Filson Historical Society in Old Louisville, to discuss with author Estill Curtis Pennington, his new book, "Lessons in Likeness: Portrait Painters in Kentucky and the Ohio River Valley, 1802-1920", published by University Press of Kentucky.

According to The Filson, "This book is a comprehensive overview, encompassing both a cultural chronology and biographies of significant portrait artists. For anyone deeply affected by either art, history, or both, Lessons in Likeness offers fascinating insights." The Filson holds in its collection, several of the portraits seen in the book.
