Susan Sweeney Crum, WFPL News
Susan Sweeney Crum anchors the afternoon news on WFPL 89.3 FM, one of the radio stations operated by Louisville’s Public Radio Partnership. She began her broadcast news career at WHAS, spending three and a half years in radio before moving over to the television side. She now has more than 20 years’ experience in broadcast news, including 15 years at WDRB-TV. There she worked as a reporter and weekend anchor before launching a 4:00 pm newscast, which she co-anchored.
Susan is a Louisville native and lifelong resident, having left town only to earn her degree in broadcasting from Western Kentucky University. In 2001, she married retired University of Louisville Cardinals basketball coach Denny Crum. Susan reports that she sometimes accompanies him on fishing trips, but always makes a point of joining him on other travels to favorite places around the country. Susan also enjoys working with charities, including the Mattingly Center. At home, she spends her spare time gardening and seeing to the projects you would expect on a 70-acre farm—including attending to every whim and desire of the five family dogs.
