Art Cars

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft (KMAC) hosted their 8th Annual Kentucky Art Car Weekend from Thursday, August 6 through Saturday, August 8, 2009. The event showcased more than 40 art cars from around the country, including the world famous Camera Van and the California Fantasy Van.

"Louisville Life" caught up with the cars on in 2009, when art cars from around the country arrived and parked along the 700 block of West Main Street for the First Friday Trolley Hop.

In addition to cars from around the country, local favorites featured in the segment where two 21c Museum Hotel cars, a Louisville father and his six-year-old son's art cars (the latter a toy vehicle), and a student project from the Indiana University Southeast. The event takes public art to a whole new level...and motion!

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft is a nonprofit organization founded in 1981. Its mission is to promote and support art and craft excellence in Kentucky. The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, supports the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
