Don’t look now, but the Louisville area has been invaded by geeks. And they could turn out to be quite a boon for the local economy.
The Geek Squad, a subsidiary of Best Buy, bills itself as “the first national 24-hour computer support task force.” Its job is to assist millions of customers with computer set-up, training, installations, repairs, and related services each year.
Bullitt County is home to the Geek Squad’s world headquarters. Known as Geek Squad City, it’s located at 345 International Boulevard in Hillview and is the largest single Geek Squad computer repair site anywhere in the world. The 165,000-square-foot site houses hundreds of Geek Squad “agents” and support personnel who focus solely on repairing PCs or laptops for customers around the country.
On October 25, 2006, pop icon Fabio was named by Geek Squad company officials as “Wireless Ambassador for the Day” as part of Geek Squad City’s grand opening ceremonies in Louisville.
