Joe Ley Antiques

Is it an antiques store … or a museum? That’s the question many folks ask when they enter the realm of Joe Ley Antiques, in downtown Louisville.

Joe Ley Antiques is a popular destination for collectors, builders and even tourists. A mainstay on Market Street for nearly 30 years, it's three floors, two acres of treasures stored within a treasure itself – a restored 1890 schoolhouse.

Joe Ley says growing up as an orphan helped him to appreciate the historical value of antiques. He started his business in the early 1960s by first refinishing cast-off furniture.

Today his business has grown to include architectural salvage and rare collectibles ... and has received national recognition through publications such as House Beautiful and Travel & Leisure.

Colorful carousel horses highlight Joe’s collection. His passion for these horses stems from his childhood love of the carousel at Louisville’s old Fontaine Ferry Park. An incomparable collection of items from Fontaine Ferry can be found here.

Because of its unusual and eclectic nature, Joe Ley Antiques rents props for the movie industry and has been the site for several commercials, movies, and music videos.

Celebrity clients have included Joan Rivers, Mark Harmon, Penny Marshall, Andy Williams, and the late Johnny Cash.

Joe Ley Antiques sees over 100,000 visitors annually.

Joe Ley Antiques is located at 615 East Market Street, Louisville, Kentucky. The store is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
