KET’s longest-running public affairs program, Comment on Kentucky, has been assembling journalists to offer perspectives on the week’s news and newsmakers since 1974.

Veteran broadcaster, educator and Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame member Ferrell Wellman has retired from hosting Comment on Kentucky.

“Over the last few months, I had been considering when would be a good time to leave the moderator's chair,” Wellman said. “I'm a firm believer in leaving a position a little too early rather than a little late.” Wellman cited a recent knee injury and the need to be away from the program for an extended time while he goes through the rehabilitation process as influencing the timing of his decision.

Another veteran broadcaster, Bill Bryant, anchor/managing editor at WKYT in Lexington and host of Kentucky Newsmakers, is currently filling in as interim host.

Series creator and original host Al Smith retired from Comment on Kentucky in November 2007.
