1/30/04: Louie Nunn, the state’s Republican governor of three decades ago, dies at 79. He is remembered as a strong, sometimes controversial, but progressive leader. Ernie Fletcher, the state’s first Republican governor since Nunn, delivers an austere budget, pledging again not to raise taxes. This was a pledge Nunn also made—but repudiated.
