The Sutton Singers have been making music for the Owensboro community since the late 1980s. This auditioned choir made up of 3rd and 4th graders meets two days a week after school to rehearse. Since the group’s inception, the Sutton Singers have performed at Opryland, Holiday World, the Kentucky Center for the Arts, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the RiverPark Center, and the Kentucky Music Educators Association conference. They have appeared with the Chattanooga Boys Choir and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. In 1999, the chorus was selected to sing in the National Youth Chorus at Carnegie Hall in New York City—the only Kentucky children’s choir chosen.
Director Julie Ann White has taught in the Owensboro Public Schools for more than 25 years. She has received a number of awards for her work, including a selection as Kentucky Music Educator of the Year and an Ashland Oil Teacher Achievement Award. The chorus accompanist is Carolyn Anderson, organist at Trinity Episcopal Church.
