The Louisville Ballet, the state ballet of Kentucky, was formed in 1952 as a civic ballet and has grown into a professional company. In 1978, Alun Jones was selected as the artistic director; he continues in that post today. The company has 30 professional dancers as well as a civic company chosen from the Louisville Ballet School for large productions. It moved to its current location on East Main Street in downtown Louisville in 1995.
The Louisville Ballet stages a regular subscription series of performances as well as a series of educational outreach programs.
