The Kentucky Opera, State Opera of Kentucky, was founded in 1952 in Louisville by Moritz von Bombard. The company produces a full schedule of grand opera out of the Kentucky Center for the Arts and complements its performing schedule with a school/outreach program.
For the In Performance Derby Gala, KOA singers performed excerpts from Verdis La Traviata with the Louisville Orchestra. Featured performers were Melinda Cumberledge and Charles Davidson.
The Kentucky Opera is also the subject of a KET Electronic Field Trip.
